In 1970 Signe´s grandparents went on a charter holiday to the island of Teneriffe in the Canary Islands together with uncle Ernst and aunt Polle. Aunt Polle nicked a shoot form the plant and brought it home to Denmark. They didn´t know what kind of plant it was, but describes it as growing wildly as large bushes all over Teneriffe.
Since the 1970s the plant has spread among the whole Baadsgaard-family on the island of Sealand in Denmark. Signe grew up with a few in her childhood home of Holte, north of Copenhagen. When she got her own apartment she brought one with her. After a while it apparently grew too large and she gave it back to her parents. The mother plant of the cuttings now for sale in the Vintage Plant market she brought when she moved in with her boyfriend Anders in his flat in Nørrebro, Copenhagen in September 2005. |
